new pr baby!

The 2010 Philadelphia Half Marathon is over!! My personal pace {ing?} partner, Lori and I managed to knock off 4 minutes from our previous race and set new pr's today!!!!

We couldn't have been happier with the outcome. Hoooray for us.

13.1 in 1:49 at a pace of 8:10. We were definitely psyched!! The route was fantastic. A few hills but nothing we couldn't handle. The race started at 7am and boy was it chilly out. Brrr.. Around mile 6, I whipped off my long sleeved shirt. This little lady was no longer cold, girfriend was HOT! Lor wore her shirt the entire run, cause she's cool like that. As soon as we crossed the finish line, all I could think about was my metal. Give me my metal!

This race was bittersweet as it was our 3rd half marathon we've run together and the last half for the year, wahhhhh. I'm so proud of myself for completing 4 half marathons in the last 7 months. If you had asked me last year if I would {or wanted to} run a half, I would of laughed in yo face! Lor and I already have 2 halves lined up to run next year. She'll be running the RNR Virginia half in April, and I'm running the RNR Dallas half in March. There's also a half scheduled sometime in April at Tyler State park. We plan to run that too. In December I'm running a couple of 5K's and joined the Bucks County Runner's winter series for their weekly 5, 8 and ten milers at Tyler State Park. I'm a chick who needs to run with other people if it's long distance.

Crap, I almost forgot to tell you. My first toenail fell off in bath tub today!! Now, normally I would be totally grossed out by this, but honestly, after setting a new PR, I think losing a toe nail is kind of bad- ass. Does this mean I'm a true real runner now? HAHA.

running dallas!

I signed up to run another half! This time it's the DALLAS Rock 'n Roll half Marathon in March! This will be my 5th half! I'm so excited!! Dallas is my most favorite city. I love all the republicans it! My sis and and her bf are running it too. Once again, a family affair :) Stu will be our lone spectator. A great one at that. He's gotten a lot of practice over the past 7 months. Stu is one hell of a cheerleader. What a guy! I'm pumped. Totally pumped! Speaking of running, the Philly half is this Sunday. EEEK! All I know is that a big bowl of pasta is in my future. Oh, the joys of running.

we're in boston!

Hello from Boston!

We made it. I love Amtrak and all, but damn, the ride from NY to Boston is a bitch. Ugh.

Linds and I are off to pick up our bibs and race packets and then spend the day walking around this beautiful city. We're having what I suspect to be an epic lunch at Veggie Planet. This place looks serious. Stu's face lit up like a Christmas tree when I broke the news to him. Remember, he's a cute little vegetarian, so this is right up his ally.

One of the HUGE PERKS of running a half marathon is the "I don't feel guilty about eating a bowl of pasta" feeling. Now obviously this isn't a free to pass to shove 31 lbs of rigatoni down your throat, BUT, you can definitely cheat a little. That's what I intend on doing tonight. I'll most likey get a basic pasta in tomato sauce and allow myself to enjoy, dare I say, bread???? Yup, that's definitely happening. My bod needs the fuel. My bod also needs dessert. Ice cream? Yes please. I have no idea where we're eating. I think in the south end maybe?? I forget. My dad is coming up later this afternoon to join us for dinner. According to my sister, we're meeting up with his cousin and her husband for din too. This will be awkward meet up considering I've never met this cousin before {and if I have, I don't remember.} Oppsies.

Okay, off to start the day. Race and weekend re-cap coming Monday. I'm taking tomorrow off because I can't stand this blog.

oh, hi

Happy Wednesday. This week is flying by huh?

I'm determined to get the new site launched by next month. I can't stand this one anymore. I wanna puke every time I see purple. Perhaps that's why I haven't been the best blogger lately. Once my new website is up I'll be a whole new woman.

This weekend my sis and I are running the Fat Man Chilly Half Marathon. I keep forgetting I have two half marathons to tackle in the next two weeks, gah! We're going up to Boston for the weekend and what's awesome about this particular race is that it'll be in a new city! I love Philly and all, but running through Boston is enough to get me through this race. PS- My garmin crapped out on me so I had to buy a new one until my old one gets fixed. How annoying?!

I bailed on pilates last night and managed to sleep through my alarm this morning, so there went the 6 miler I had planned. Good thing Ang and I are taking the 6:30 spin class tonight. I need it after the ice cream and oatmeal cookies I ate 13 mns before I went to bed last night.

longest post ever..hand is cramping

As you know, this past Saturday was the Nordstrom Trend show. My alarm went off at 6am and I was out the door by 630 to pick up my girls. Ugh, rough getting up. It was cold out. I got to Danielle's at 645 and all three of us mocked 8 to KOP. We got there around 7:20 and already crazy women were in and seated. We scurried past the coffee/breakfast table in a mad panic to grab the closest seats possible. Third row. Not bad. Okay, time for breakfast. Two mini scones, and a warm coffee later, let's get this show started. If you went, was it just me or did the show run wicked long {2 hours}, AND didn't it get a little awkward when Jules kept calling out the cosmetic brand reps on the "amount of xxx they had left". Case in point: the Lancome chick {"Drama Queen" with the tiara?} How uncomfortable was that? The highligh of the show for me was my big win. They pulled my name for the Phyto basket. I never win anything, ever, so that was a momentous moment, haha. After the 12 two hour trend show, it was time to get our make-up done at Bobbi Brown. Dan and Ang's make-up looked phenom. I liked my make-up too, but didn't end up buying anything because I have a lot of the products she used. PS-I'm still obsessed with the gel eye liners and the no smudge mascara. Nothing new there.

After we got our make-up done, we hit the food court hard. We were starving. Following lunch we headed over to David Yurman. Shout out to Eddie for helping us out. Speaking of DY. Here's a pic of the necklace Stu got me for our anniversary. I realize you're seeing it backwards. Sorry.

Anyway, the whole weekend was awesome. Fri night Stu and I had a delish din at Macoroni Grill. They re-vamped their menu and it's a million times better. Finally, fish on the menu! Score. After din, we went to Sonic for a route 44 diet cherry limeade. So good! We needed to be well hydrated for our hilarious jaunt into Walmart. Yes, that is how we spent our Friday night; at Ross and Walmart. Loved every second, because we were together. Truth be told, the whole reason why I even wanted to go to Walmart was to get Jillian Michaels' new protein shakes. Two footballs, a Britney cd, dingo bones and a 4 pack of shakes later, we were outty 5,000.

Saturday, was the trend show. Ang, did a way better review of it than I did, so check out her post HERE.

Saturday afternoon, I cleaned the house, planted 4 mums, tried to take a nap {never happened} and THEN...drum roll please....it was time for dinner at Oishi! More time spent with Ang and Dan, but this time all the husbands came along, as well as our friends' Eddie and Michelle. Holy YUMMMM! I had two glasses of Rielsing, and I was good to go. HAHA. After din, we went to Shadybrook Farm and had the best time on their haunted hayride. Post hayride Stu and I shared a cuppa hot chocolate. The only thing missing was a gob of marshmallow fluff on the top.

Sunday morning, we were up bright in early for the Mr. O'Connor 5K. The goal {like every week} was to set a new pr. I missed it by 1 second, litereally.  My best pr for running a 5K is 22:19. I hit 22:20 this time. Doh! The good news?? I was #1 in my age group! Gimme my metal. I've become slightly infatuated with winning and collecting metals lately, haha. Guess I really am turning into a " true runner." My next two halves are quickly approaching, yikes!! November 14th, my sis and I are running in the Fatman cup Chilli half {in Boston} and November 21st is the Philly half.

This weekend we're off to Miami for a wedding. Congrats to Eddie and Michelle.

And now my hand is about to fall off from typing my face off. Sorry this post is 13 miles long.

whirlwind weekend

Monday is here. Back to the grind! In no particular order, I spent serious qt w/ Stu, ran a 5K (came in #1 in my age group), went on a haunted hay ride, attended the Nordstrom Trend show, ate at Mac Grill, had amazing sushi and marvelous wine with great friends, and made a kick ass veggie chili. Ready to take on the week baby!!

"trend" or "treat"

Ahh, the weekend is upon us! Amen. How is everyone doing?? TGIF!

I added water to my yogurt bomb bowl today and it wasn't as good. I'll never do that again. Way to watery.

I decided to save my run for later. It's so beautiful out, why not take advantage of the Autumn awesomeness when I can actually see the trees {and road?} How could you not love this season?? It's a runner's dream.

We're laying low tonight. Tomorrow morning is the big Nordstrom Trend show and seeing that I have to get up at the crack, I want to be in bed early tonight. Tomorrow night however will be a different story. We're getting together with Eddie and Michelle and doing the whole Shadybrook Farm Halloween Horror nights thing. I live for their corn maze and haunted hayride.

Sunday morning I'm running a 5K at the Garden of Reflection. Pretty cool.

Still deciding what we're gonna make for slow cooker Sunday. Stu's been jonsing for a big pot of veggie chili so that's probably what we'll go with.

my thoughts on running.

I get a lot of emails about running. How did I start? How far do I run? What sneaks do I run in? Over the past three years, running has become more of a hobby for me than anything else. I look forward to my morning runs. I love the rush I get when I'm running to my favorite songs. Running makes me feel empowered and liberated. While I'm no running expert, I do feel like I've been doing it long enough to offer you some advise, so here it goes.

In the last 8 months I've run:

Looking back at this list makes me feel so proud. I'm proud of my dedication, I'm proud of my body, I'm proud of my commitment, I'm proud of my persistence, I'm proud of my spirit and lastly, I'm proud of my accomplishments. At this time last year, I would of never thought I could muster up enough courage or energy to run a race, let alone 11. If you've ever thought about running a 5K and not sure if you could do it, I am here to tell you, YES YOU CAN!! Give yourself a chance. If you have to walk a 5K, WALK. Whooofc. Just get out there. There's no better or greater rush than running over that finish line. It's a feeling you've never experienced. It's an out of body experience. There are a million races going on everywhere. Go to ACTIVE.COM and find an event near you. I promise, you'll be amazed and surprised at what your hot little body is capable of. GO FOR IT!! Run girl, run!!

it's all about me

Saturday, I met up with Ruthie for an early morning run along the West Side highway. I think we did about 5 miles. I realized that I hadn't set my garmin until we were about 1.5 miles in. Opps. Later on Saturday afternoon, we met up with Michelle and Eddie for the Paula Deen show!

Paula was awesome. Exactly like she is on tv. Totally adorable and over-the-top personable. The interview was held inside the Times Center and ran about 1.5 hrs. The last 20 minutes, they let the audience ask Paula a questions. You know I jumped at the chance. When I got up to the mic, my heart was pounding. I don't do well speaking in front of small crowds. Crazy huh?? The convo went something like this:

Me: "Hi Paula."

Paula: "Hi darling."

Me: "My husband and I love your silly salt. We dump it on everything."

Paula: "Isn't it good? I use it on meat, seafood, baked potatoes. It adds so much flavor."

Me: What do you do with all the food after you make it {on your show??}

Paula: "We make 3 versions of whatever I'm baking. The first version is for pictures and camera shots only. The second version is the "after" and the third version is me making the actual dish." After we finish shooting the show, we give the food to a local food bank."

Me: "Nooooo way!". That's great!!

Then I nervously walked away. I LOVE PAULA!! After the interview, we scrambled down stairs to get my cookbook signed.

I'm still freaking out. I was just so over-joyed to meet Paula!

So that was my Saturday. Now on to Sunday Funday.

Yesterday I ran a 5K and WON {overall woman.}

WTH? I have no idea how to get my iPhone pic's to rotate upright. This is ghetto, but you get the idea.

All I wanted was that damn metal, and I got it! The goal for this particular race was to set a new pr. My best time so far still sits at 22:19. Yesterday I finished 3.1 in 23:18. While I didn't set a new pr, I did take the #1 spot for women, and honestly, that felt AMAZING. Guess I'll be running another 5K ;0)

After running a ton of errands and basking in my #1-ness, I managed to stay in one place for 25 minutes and throw together our Slow Cooker Sunday meal. We made a "Sweet n Savory" veggie pot, thanks to Hungry-girl.

It was FANTASTIC!!! We ate it with a nice dark whole grain bagette. I had two mongo slices with butter. Hey, I was #1 yesterday. I ran hard for that bread, haha.

Sweet & Spicy Veggie Pot

Ingredients:
2 cups cubed butternut squash (about half a squash)
1 large eggplant, stem removed, peeled, and cubed
1/2 head of cabbage, cored and cut in chunks
1 zucchini, sliced into 1/4-inch coins
1 large onion, chopped
1 cup chopped carrots
One 15-oz. can pure pumpkin
One 6-oz. can tomato paste
1 1/2 tbsp. brown sugar (not packed)
1 tsp. chopped garlic
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt, or more to taste
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper, or more to taste
1/4 tsp. ground ginger, or more to taste
1/4 tsp. ground cumin, or more to taste
1/4 tsp. chili powder, or more to taste

Directions:
Place all cut veggies in an extra-large bowl and set aside.

In a medium bowl, combine all other ingredients and thoroughly mix. Spoon this mixture over the veggies and stir to coat.

Transfer mixture to a crock pot with a capacity of four quarts or more. If needed, pack it in tightly. (It will cook down.)

Cover and cook on high for 3 - 4 hours or on low for 7 - 8 hours, until veggies are very tender.

Stir well and serve!

MAKES 10 SERVINGS. NOTE, this def DOES NOT serve 10. More like 4.

exciting things!

Morning!!!

How is everyone today? It was so nice to wake up to the sun. I contemplated going out for a run, but it was too dark at 5:15 and I wanted to get 6 miles in. I'm so glad I have my precor as a back-up. I hopped on and did 50 mins. I really can't wait until daylight savings time kicks in. I miss running every morning, especially this time of year.

Thanks for your great feedback about botox. I've made up my mind, and I'm having it done. Probably next week sometime. Dr. Gross is a renowned board certified dermatologist. He customizes Botox treatments to ensure the most natural look for each one of his clients. His skin care line ranks #1 in just about every beauty magazine, poll, surveys, etc. If there's one person that I trust giving me botox, it's Dr. Gross. The few wrinkles that I have on my forehead are noticeable and they're all I see when I look in the mirror. Like I said in last nights post, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect those of you who don't agree with my decision. The beauty of botox is that if for some ungodly reason I don't like the results, I won't go back for a 2nd session in 6 months. No a big deal. 

Anyway, this weekend's shaping up to be a super fun one. Friday night I'm dragging Stu to see "Life As We Know it." Anything involving babies is an automatic must see {for me.}

Saturday we're back in NY for the Wine and Food Fest! I can't wait to see Paula Deen in action! I adore her.

Sunday I signed up to run a 5K in Yardley. Gotta love the local races. The plan with this week's 5K is to go balls to the wall nuts and try to set a new PR. I hope I can do it. Stu and Miles will be cheering {& barking me on.} Oh, and of course it's SLOW COOKER Sunday! I'll post the recipe later. It looks deeelish!!

Excited that the sun is out and here to stay!! I LOVE THE FALL!!!
